Glamour Kampung Ramadan Buffet: great for a festive meal

Curate at Four Seasons Hotel KL

If you’re looking for a special dining experience this sacred month, the Ramadan buffet at Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur is a must-try. It offers a wonderful mix of tradition, celebration, and delicious flavours. The hotel’s renowned restaurant, Curate, has been transformed into a “Glamour Kampung” for Ramadan, blending rustic charm with modern luxury. The setting showcases Malaysia’s rich heritage with handwoven decorations, batik fabrics, and stylish design elements. With its elegant yet inviting atmosphere and stunning views, it’s the perfect place for a festive meal with family and friends.

I was fortunate to experience this incredible buffet, and it truly is a feast for the senses offering a wide array of global flavours, including Malaysian classics and international dishes from Japan, China, India, the West, and even Brazil! As the moon rises, a vibrant food bazaar comes alive at Curate, made even more special by the  sounds of live music.

Let’s dig in

It is honestly difficult to describe everything on offer at the Glamour Kampung Ramadan Buffet. As usual the fresh seafood section is striking and offers the freshest produce imaginable.

The highlights of the buffet however are definitely the live cooking stations, where Four Seasons’ talented chefs present their signature specialties. The Kambing Golek Utara (Smoked Roasted Whole Lamb) is a standout—tender, smoky, and full of flavour. It’s perfectly complemented by the Nasi Ulam, a traditional Malaysian dish made even more special with black truffle or minced wagyu beef. I tried the truffle version, and it was truly exceptional. I also made a stop at the Gear-Box Sup station, which I had never tried before, being a bit squeamish. However, judging by the long line, it must have been absolutely delicious!

The wide range of dishes also includes a variety of satays, salads, grills, seafood, and curries, from Malaysia and beyond.

Additionally, for those looking to try something unique, the first half of March 2025 features authentic Indonesian dishes crafted by Visiting Chef Surya Hadinata from Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay. This collaboration gives diners the opportunity to explore some lovely Indonesian flavours. The highlight of the evening was the delightful chef personally bringing a selection of his favourite dishes to our table. We savoured aromatic rice, a spicy long bean salad, and delicious snapper and mackerel satay. My favourite was the banana leaf-wrapped steamed chicken, which was tender and full of flavour. But the standout dish was the chef’s signature lamb curry—creamy, slightly sweet, and perfectly complemented by eggplant. For anyone interested in learning to make these dishes, the chef also offers special cooking classes at the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay… if you just happen to be in the area.

Those with a sweet tooth will not be dissapointed either. Dessert highlights include the Pistachio and Rose Om Ali, a rich and fragrant pudding, and the Rose Bandung, a refreshing and fragrant drink served alongside the Pistachio Panna Cotta. One of the crowd-pleasers is the Cendol Rice Pudding, offering a comforting mix of coconut milk, palm sugar, and pandan. And the usual colourful selection of sweet treats which beautifully round off the buffet. And Ais Kacang!

I also have to mention the most impressive selection of dates I have EVER seen…

The service is prompt and professional as can be expected from the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur, and the friendly chefs are happy to share their recipes and explain the details of each dish. Overall a truly memorable evening.
