Red Chinese Cuisine: serving up Chinese New Year favourites

Red Chinese Cuisine

As the Chinese New Year festivities unfold, Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre invites you to indulge in some traditional Chinese New Year dishes at Red Chinese Cuisine.

From the moment I stepped into Red Chinese Cuisine I was wowed by the striking decor. The bold red and black theme, complemented by large posters of oriental women in cheongsams, creates a stunning ambiance. This is further elevated by the ceiling lights that cast a soft glow over the immaculately set tables.

We began the evening with my absolute favourite – Yee Sang, and this time, it was served with soft shell crab. The vibrant colourful ingredients, artfully shaped in the form of a snake, were a visual feast. The slightly messy but enthusiastic tossing which followed set the mood for a fun, memorable evening.

Classics from Red Chinese Cuisine

After the lo sang and tasty salad, we moved on to the rest of the menu which consisted of classic Chinese New Year favourites.

First came the Double-boiled Chicken Soup with Fish Maw and Dried Scallop. This soup was rich in flavour, with the essence of the chicken perfectly complemented by the delicate, silky textures of the fish maw and dried scallop.

Next, we were treated to the Roasted Five Spice London Duck. The crispy skin, infused with the aromatic five-spice blend, was tasty and tender, and the juicy meat inside was a perfect contrast to the crispy exterior.

The Steamed Tiger Grouper with Superior Soy Sauce was another highlight. The fish was expertly steamed, retaining its natural sweetness, while the superior soy sauce added just the right amount of depth and savoury taste. It was delicate and delicious.

One of the standout dishes of the evening however was the Crispy Prawn Meat with Pomelo Sauce. The prawn balls were perfectly crisp on the outside, while the inside remained soft and full of flavour. The tangy pomelo sauce added an unexpected twist, making it a refreshing bite. This was everyone’s favourite.

Following that, we had the Braised Whole Abalone, Sea Cucumber, and Bean Curd Roll with Vegetables. The abalone was perfectly tender, and while I’m not a fan of sea cucumber, my companion assured me that it nicely complemented the bean curd roll and vegetables.

For something a little more substantial, the next dish Mini Lotus Rice with Dried Oyster and Salted Egg Yolk was rich and savoury.

For desert, we were served Chilled Osmanthus Oolong Tea with Peach Gum and Snow Bird’s Nest which was refreshing if a little bland.

Finally, the traditional Chinese New Year Rice Cakes offered the perfect finish, symbolising good luck and prosperity for the year ahead. These were really tasty – chewy sweetness inside and crispy crunchy outside.

What did we think?

The service at Red Chinese Cuisine was efficient and professional, with staff always attentive to our needs. My tea cup was immediately refilled every time I took a sip, ensuring I was definitely well-hydrated throughout the meal!

We were also visited during our meal by the Prosperity God so I am really hoping that the coming year will be a year of wealth and abundance for me.

Overall, Red Chinese Cuisine at Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre offers a lovely dining experience, combining good flavours, service, and an elegant atmosphere. It’s definitely a good choice to celebrate Chinese New Year with your family and friends.
