Paya Serai in Hilton Petaling Jaya was famous among Malaysians since the 1980s, as THE place to go and be seen, especially for those late nights when one wanted to meet in more comfortable settings. I was a kid when my dad used to bring me here and though the grandeur of the entrance has been upgraded, it still holds the old charm. The interior is far from shoddy, and very welcoming.
The spread at Paya Serai
As usual the festive spread at Paya Serai was enormous! Every available surface had food offerings, and we tried to sample at least most of it. To be frank the Whole Roasted Lamb was one of the clear winners for us with the flavourful gravy on offer: rosemary gravy and garlic gravy.
The second winner was the Grilled Fish paired with delicious delicate Nonya sauce.
The terrines were pretty tasty, especially the Chicken Trip Capsicum and Olive Terrine. They also had refreshing salads like the Pumpkin Salad, Crab Meat Salad and tangy Chili Salmon Salad. Always a winner was the Beef and Chicken Satay and a surprisingly satisfying appetite refresher was the spicy Szechuan Soup. Can’t forget those veggies! Try the tender Braised Vegetables with Sea Asparagus.
On to desserts! Bite sized fruits on Meringue was the perfect start to warm up those taste buds, followed by small cups of tasty Mango / Passion Fruit Trifle (not much to look at but another welcome surprise!). We thoroughly enjoyed the smooth Raspberry Mousse Tart with raspberry confit filling and a crunchy coconut base. There was also the Christmas Pudding with warm spiced cherry compote.
Frankly there is so much on offer, we are sure you will find something to enjoy.
