The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur, has just launched a refreshed version of their acclaimed Ritzy Afternoon Tea that redefines the classic tradition with a modern, cosmopolitan twist. What sets this new offering apart is the collaboration with guest pastry chefs Hoss and Zahra from L’Nop, who have infused the experience with their distinctive culinary flair, introducing unexpected and delightful flavours. Needless to say I decided to postpone my diet plans indefinitely and, together with my friend, decided to indulge.
Nestled in the refined yet intimate setting of The Lobby Lounge, the space exudes elegance, with soft light streaming through grand windows and gentle music enhancing the tranquil atmosphere. I am always captivated by the silvery ceiling, which casts a luminous glow over the entire room.
Tea galore at Ritzy Afternoon Tea
After taking in the elegance of our surroundings, our lovely hostess, Sally, guided us to the tea counter, where we faced the difficult task of choosing from 39 unique blends. Oddly enough, we both found ourselves drawn to the Irish Whiskey Cream — how could we resist?
For our second choice, we decided to try the Ritz-Carlton blend, a signature creation exclusive to The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur. The tea selection is truly impressive, offering a diverse range of blends to suit every taste, from fragrant floral varieties to rich, robust options. Sally expertly walked us through the choices, recommending perfect pairings to enhance the savoury and sweet treats that accompanied our Ritzy Afternoon Tea.
The tea is then served on individual heated pedestals, each with a strainer to keep loose leaves at bay. Brewed in the traditional manner, the tea leaves steep directly in the very pretty ornate pot. Soon after, our beautiful selection of sandwiches and pastries arrived, completing the experience.
Let’s feast
The Ritzy Afternoon Tea spread is varied and impressive, with a wide array of finger sandwiches, scones, pastries, and cakes. The finger sandwiches, such as the Classic Cucumber and Cream Cheese, Smoked Salmon, or Chicken Mushroom Tarragon were light and full of flavour without being overpowering. The beautifully crafted savouries – Chicken Leek Potato Pie and Spinach Quiche were delicious. Especially the quiche with its nice flaky pastry and flavourful spinach.
And of course the scones, served warm with Dover clotted cream and imported raspberry jam from Austria, are a highlight – light and fluffy with just the right amount of buttery goodness.
Desserts like none other
A special shout out goes to the desserts where Hoss and Zahra truly shine. From intricately designed tarts to exquisitely flavoured cakes, each piece is a work of art. Their cosmopolitan touch is evident in creations like the vibrant Raspberry Mousse, the rich Dark Chocolate Tart and the delicate Éclairs but my personal favourite was the Strawberry and Vanilla Tart – yummy. The attention to detail is apparent, and the balance of flavours keeps the palate engaged throughout the entire experience.
The service was excellent as you would expect. Everything was offered in a timely manner and the staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Needless to say we loved the whole experience.
The refreshed Ritzy Afternoon Tea is not just about food; it’s about the atmosphere, the impeccable service, and the sense of indulgence it provides. Whether you’re seeking a quiet afternoon retreat or a place to indulge in sophisticated flavours, this afternoon tea delivers on all fronts. Its a special experience and we all need that from time to time.
