Nostalgia Rembulan buffet at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

Going to the glamorous Grand Hyatt nestled next to KLCC is always a treat! I was curious to find out how they would make their Ramadan buffet different this year. To start with, their décor is very pleasing to the eye with fresh orchids on every table and adorning most of the buffets. On to the food!

The buffet highlights

There is a wide selection of food (though not many veggies, but meat lovers will be very happy) and a huge choice of desserts. The roast lamb (tender and right amount of juiciness) and tasty briyani with their signature creamy sauce was perfectly spiced to compliment the flavour. The beef rendang with lemang and serunding was excellent too – the beef was tender and nicely spiced. The lemang was a bit too sticky though and was hard to pry from the wrapping. We also tried the lamb varuval with white rice, which was fragrant and spiced perfectly again, and complimented by mixed vegetables.

At the vegan meats area, labeled as ‘Phuture meats’ – we tried the kofta curry, which was creamy and quite tasty, while the masak hitam was a nicely chewy semi-sweet potato consistency. We also had some mapo tofu, which was like tofu should be I guess. Finally, the chicken satay had that typical lovely meaty sweet smokey taste.

We weren’t too impressed with the seafood corner, which was mostly BBQ fish, squid and prawns; they had a large selection though. I had some oyster omelet which was a bit fishy, though oysters are admittedly not my favourites and the kuey teow was a bit dull.

Our food was accompanied by some fresh juices (mango, kalamansi and others) and teh tarik which wasn’t overly sweet for once. A very nice surprise!

Thumbs up for desserts

The dessert corner was to die for! It had treats such as baklava, cute cups of sago Melaka, hibiscus rice pudding (which was yum), coconut tart (with a firm and buttery pastry), burnt cheese cake (with a light yoghurt taste but not overly sweet), a novel cham chiffon cake (comes with a nice strawberry or mango sauce), and a few kinds of jelly which I love. We ended the night on a fruit jelly. Nice and light!

Overall we had a good time, the staff were very helpful and the food was delish. We would go back.
