SNAPSHOTS is back with a post about an unusual café in Melaka. Too good not to share with our readers… Due to the current travel restrictions, KL-ites can’t travel yet. But please do read up on The Huskitory in Melaka from our KaraokeMama and put it on your list of things to do in Malaysia!
I have to admit that when I heard about The Huskitory, a dog café in Melaka, I was pretty baffled by the whole idea. Our family is very much into dogs though, so it was too tempting to pass up.
Ready for a husky tsunami?
On arrival, our family went inside the café where the temperature is kept cool and comfortable for the huskies. After a few instructions about how to interact with the dogs, we were all excited to meet them. At this point, if you are brave enough, you can experience the ‘husky tsunami’. This involves sitting on the floor while a pack of 10 Siberian huskies run towards you as they enter the café.
The huskies themselves are very friendly and will come up to sniff you and be petted. They are obviously used to all the attention and our two kids soon warmed to them. The staff do an excellent job of keeping the dogs under control by training them to sit before allowing you to give them a few treats. Our children felt safe and in control, even when the dogs crowded around them. Just be prepared for the occasional lick!
Puppy love
The walls of the cafe are covered with ribbons and awards from successful dog shows. I have to say the dogs appeared to be well cared for, calm and happy. The huskies take it in turns to meet their human guests so that they get a chance to rest during the day, which was good to know. We were able to meet two puppies, but only for 10 mins before they were returned to their mum, which I thought was good. You can also visit an information gallery upstairs.
All in all, if you are a dog lover and your kids are not afraid of dogs, you will really enjoy this experience. There’s something about petting a dog that really puts you in a good mood. Please note that The Huskitory in Melaka is not a proper café with food and drinks. You do get a soft drink though after entering the café.
The Huskitory dog café is located at 27, Jalan Taman Asean in Melaka. It costs RM28 per person for approximately a 1 ½ hour visit with the huskies. If you want to read more about Melaka, have a look at our article here about fun things to do with kids in Melaka.
