Thinking what to do with the family this Sunday? Try the brunch at Nathalie Gourmet Studio at Publika in Solaris Dutamas. Great for kids and evenly great for the parents!
Bonjour and welcome to Nathalie Gourmet Studio…” We’re cheerfully greeted by the staff of the restaurant. After registration of our names, numbers and temperature check, they usher us to our table. There are tables inside as well as outside. We prefer the cool atmosphere, so we opt for a table inside.
We have been invited to sample the Sunday brunch. Just to ensure that we’d do justice to their food, we’d skipped breakfast that morning. I am happy we did, because the food on the brunch menu looks very appetising.
What’s cooking?
There is nothing nicer than the smell of freshly baked bread. Close your eyes while biting into a crunchy baguette and you almost can imagine yourself at a restaurant in Paris. The breadbasket with butter and jam is nice for starters, but soon we are exploring the menu.
The brunch menu has got six different dishes for mains to choose from, two cheese dishes and then it is all-you-can-eat for desserts… After we order our mains, we take a stroll to the other side of the restaurant, where desserts are waiting to be savoured.
Desserts with a capital ‘D’
It must have been the French who have invented desserts; they do them so well! I swear I could hear a sweet little voice whispering: “Eat me, eat me“, while I was admiring the displayed sweets. Somehow I was strong enough to tear myself away and to return to the table. Mains were waiting for us!
I choose an Egg Cocotte with Wild Mushrooms and Truffle. They often say that ‘presentation is everything’ and Nathalie got that spot on. It looked almost too beautiful to eat, but I decide to do so anyways. A cocotte is a fluffy, tasty warm egg dish, made in a ‘cocotte’, a small round pan with a heavy lid. Ingredients are placed inside the pan and are slowly cooked steamed inside an oven. I can hands down say I’ve never tasted anything like this in my whole life. My father had the Mediteranean Egg Cocotte and it was very tasty as well.
What’s for the kids?
There is only one dish for kids on the menu. Although it would be nice to have more options, the ham and cheese home made croissant was gone in a minute. My daughter even asked for more… This was before she was aware of the massive amount of desserts behind her. Yes, I positioned her with her back towards the desserts corner on purpose.
Did I mention the desserts…?
Mains and cheese were great, but it was the desserts that made this brunch most memorable. A feast for the eyes, Nathalie Gourmet Studio does an outstanding job when it comes to sweets. They’ve got churros with a caramel sauce, floating merengues, mango tart, chocolate mousse, macarons, scones, pana cotta and so much more. My personal favourite dessert now is called Rhum Baba and yes it is for adults only, since it comes with a tiny hint of rum. All manners aside: next time I visit this place, I will go for the desserts first.
We left the place with full tummies and a readiness to come back for more.
Ambiance and service
The interior of the restaurant is distinguished and tasteful, with grey and purple tones. Tables are positioned well apart, to guarantee safe dining. The tasteful images of France on the walls make you feel you’re in the middle of Paris.
The staff at Nathalie Gourmet Studio is attentive and they are always eager to make suggestions and help out with questions about the menu. Drinks are not included, but still the brunch is good value for money at 99RM++ for adults and ROM 49++ for children.
There are two brunch sessions. The first is at 10.30 and a later one at 13.00, which would make it more like lunch.
Tip
If you would like to bring some of this restaurant’s food into your own home, how about signing your child up for their summer cooking classes in August here. There are sessions for younger kids as well as for teenagers.
