SNAPSHOTS: a series of short and sweet articles about great places and cool activities in Kuala Lumpur we find too good not to share with you! This SNAPSHOT is written by our inhouse photographer Cameramama and takes you to a traditional house in the middle of KLCC.
What is it?
If you are interested in a little bit of history right in the middle of KLCC, then consider a quick visit to Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman, one of the oldest surviving traditional Malay kampung (village) houses in Malaysia. It was rescued and transported to KLCC from Kedah and careful restored by Badan Warisan Malaysia (an organisation dedicated to cultural preservation and education). Today it sits beautifully preserved, hidden amongst the tall towers surrounding it on Jalan Stonor in KLCC.
Badan Warisan offers free daily tours at 11am & 3pm, but you could consider leaving a small donation to help them continue their wonderful work. The tour consists of a walkthrough of the beautiful kampung house as well as providing information on the social and cultural significance of the artefacts and layout of the structure.
Why is it good?
Our kids thoroughly enjoyed this experience, especially learning about the tools they used and the games the kampung kids would play. The tour takes approximately 30-40 minutes.
They offer a more comprehensive children’s programme for those interested in organising a group activity (booking required – see website for details).
Where is it?
The house is located at 2, Jalan Stonor, Kuala Lumpur. Its opening hours are from 10am-5pm (Monday- Saturdays). It is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Tours start at 11am and 3pm.
