The Westin Langkawi is large and luxurious, offers a panoramic sea view, has exceptional pools and numerous dining options.
I think this is one of the best romantic escapes in Langkawi but also offers activities for children with four different of swimming pools. The resort is bursting with lush green paths, sandy beaches and has a laid back and easy-going vibe.
Our stay at the Westin Langkawi Resort
On arrival, we saw a fancy lobby with the first view of the sea from a height. That was love at first sight! We were served some cool drinks and a wet towel, much needed considering the humidity in Langkawi.
We had booked a garden view room which had a partial view of the sea. The rooms are comfortably sized and have a balcony with a very refreshing view. Do be careful though, as there are plenty of monkeys around. There is space to accommodate an extra bed, and we had requested for a cot. Ff your baby is below the age of one year, note that a mattress in raised position is not available. We managed with the cot and the sofa for daytime naps.
The minibar is reasonably priced due to the island’s duty free status. The room service is worth mentioning as the food and the staff were wonderful. The staff was always conscious to be soft while delivering our dinner, as they were aware that we were with a small baby who was in deep sleep. Bigger families can also opt for villas and enjoy a private pool.
There are many dining options and we tried out a new restaurant for each meal. At Seasonal Tastes, we were offered a mixed breakfast buffet consisting of choices from Western, Chinese, Middle Eastern and local cuisines. On request, we were also served vegetarian Indian food, which just shows the resort’s dedication and hospitality.
Tide is at the beach-front and gives the feel of being in a beach shack. We enjoyed our Mediterranean lunch there. Breeze Lounge is an outdoor terrace bar, where we relished some sandwiches and burgers while taking in the serene sunset. We indulged in some ice creams and watched a game of pool volleyball in Splash, the poolside bar.
The resort has distinct spaces like Anjung Damai and Float which are ideal for celebrations and provide a spectacular view of the sea.
For guests who opt for suites and villas, they can relax at Westin & St Regis lounge at Langkawi airport. Well-being of all the guests is ensured at each point, from arrival to the final destination at the airport!
Liveliness of the resort
We loved the diverse activities which the resort had for every age group. We enjoyed the landscape of the resort by renting a bike. The bikes are available for MYR 20 for 30 minutes. There is also an option to go on a run across an 8km route. The resort has a small but up-to-date gym, which was needed as we were guilt ridden with all the extra calories.
They offer complimentary Zumba classes by the beach, and yoga sessions with a dedicated beach-front space and also an option to learn aerial and aqua yoga. They also have water sports, such as jet-skiing, kayaking and sailing. Families can also take up a game of lawn tennis, table tennis or squash.
Westin hotel Langawi has four swimming pools, including an infinity pool and an ocean rock pool with water slides. Kids will enjoy a dip in the ocean rock pool and also in the toddler’s pool. The infinity pool view is breathtaking and we were mesmerized by the view, we definitely swam our heart out.

We loved the kid’s playroom, that was decorated beautifully and keeps you away from the heat and mosquitoes. The playroom has small slides, some toys and coloring and it makes for a suitable place for playdates too.
We tried the heavenly spa and it transferred us to another zone: it was blissful and completely relaxing. The spa is situated in a separate building and has an awe-inspiring view of the Andaman Sea with an ultra-clean beach.
The massage was exceptional and the service is world class. I chose the authentic Malaysian massage and the pressure was just right to treat away all the sleepless nights. The ritual begins with choosing your motto for the massage from the themes of Gratitude, Love & Hope – this set such a positive note right at the beginning. They end the treatment with a hot ginger tea, mint chocolate and a hot pack for the neck and shoulders. The massage definitely encouraged me to reflect and delve in some soul searching!
Things you’ll love
- Short drive (about 35 minutes) from the airport
- Wide range of dining options with breathtaking views
- Seasonal activities for toddlers based on festivals
- World class spa
- Elegant rooms and praise-worthy staff
- Infinity pool & water sports
- Excellent Wi-Fi
To sum it up, we had a very fulfilling holiday at the resort, but we were unable to explore the island and its popular landmarks. The resort is situated in an exclusive neighborhood so the surrounding is quiet. It would have been about an hour’s drive from the attractions around the cable car, Sky Cab Langkawi.
We really appreciated the resort’s effort to provide us with customized food at a very short notice as otherwise the vegetarian options are quite limited, especially in room service.
The resort definitely made our stay with a baby very comfortable, as the staff was very friendly and attentive. We had picked the airport transfer by the resort, and our car came with a car seat.
The service during breakfast was slightly compromised due to the huge crowd at the same time. I suggest to go for an early breakfast to avoid the long lines for eggs and waffles. The drawback is the beach, as it is not suitable for swimming and there was a lot of jellyfish! For a good beach Tanjung Rhu is recommended.
All things considered, The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa makes for a impressive luxury escape for couples and families who are not keen to step out of the resort, and just want to lay back by the poolside and revel in the amenities of the resort.
