Best hotels in Melaka for families
Majestic Melaka
Always a top choice of hotels in Melaka, the Majestic is a lovely restored mansion and truly an oasis of calm in this cacophonic city. The location is a little away from Jonker street, so you will need a taxi to get there and prices are, of course, on the high side. The pool is basic, so if you have thoughts of lounging at the pool after long day, it may not be super ideal. Service is fantastic and don’t forget to get a meal at Melba at The Mansion. More info and bookings here.

Hotel Puri new suites
Another option if you want to choose a boutique hotel. We have stayed at the suites at Puri, which is a new wing built in 2016. A humongous affair of almost 450 sq f which gave the feeling of living in a peranakan mansion – it indeed once was. It was so grand that it used to have its own zoo with a tiger to boot, that’s some history to boast! Hotel website here.
Casugria
We are so in love with pictures of Casugria and have dreams of returning to Melaka with a big group of friends and renting the whole place. Check prices here.
Casa del Rio
Fantastic location by the riverside with all the amenities. Although we have not personally stayed, this hotel is a Melaka institution and keeps of getting good reviews from families. Check prices and book here.
DoubleTree by Hilton Melaka
One of the newest hotels in Melaka, the DoubleTree is a great option for those that value the creature comforts of the big hotels. A swimming pool overlooking the city is perhaps the top draw here – room to splash after sightseeing makes visiting Melaka with kids much easier. Read our review of the DoubleTree Melaka and check prices here.
A makan trip: where to eat in Melaka
I am on a mission to tell you that there is a world beyond Geographer Cafe in Melaka. While the Geographer brims and overfows with tourists and continues to remain a great spot to spend a lazy afternoon, if you are up for good nosh Melaka has much more to offer!
Peranakan food in Melaka
I can eat my weight in Peranakan food. For a foodie adventure in Melaka, these are our recommendations:
- Sri Nyonya Peranakan, Equatorial Melaka
Authentic nyonya cuisine tucked in the Equatorial, worth it’s price for the attention to detail and usage of fresh ingredients. - Kocik Kitchen
More reasonably priced and good selection of Pernakan favourities, Kocik is open both for lunch and dinner. - Melba at the Mansion, Majestic
Probably one of the few places to get authentic Kristang food, the food is top notch but be warned, it’s high on the spicy quotient. The children were happy with the chicken soup but there was nothing else they could have had although the adults could only wax superlatives about their fare.
Ode to cendol
Melaka is teeming with many cendol spots, don’t forget to stop! I find them all good but if you have personal preference, do let us know! Other yummies include chicken ball rice and kuehs galore.
Beyond local
- Salud Tapas Bar
Spanish in Melaka, check! Lovely food and vino, check! Fantastic ambiance, check! What more can one ask? - The Daily Fix
Perhaps one of our most favourite cafés in Melaka for their famed pandan pancakes and beyond. Tucked at the back of a random bric-a-brac store called ‘Next KK’, the Daily Fix is a Melaka must-do on my list. The fact that it’s a bit hard to find makes it all the more charming. - The Baboon House
Friends who have been have raved about the burger and fries, always a super hit with the kids.
