Thailand is a firm favourite as a family travel destination. Its beaches are world famous so you won’t be alone. But other than beaches there are other great destinations for families in Thailand.
Beaches of Thailand
Koh Yum is a small island just outside of Krabi – hence within an easy reach from the airport. There are a few hotels on the island, including a resort that rents out villas not used by their owners. With very little to do, Koh Yum – or Koh Jum – is a perfect place for a quiet family holiday on the beach.
Koh Lipe in Southern Thailand was relatively unknown until recently, but new hotels are popping up everywhere now, and the island is getting busier. Koh Lipe can be easily accesses by a speedboat from Langkawi, making it practical for those traveling from Malaysia. The island has no cars and is still relatively quiet – making it a good choice for families.
Khanom is not nearly as famous as the nearby islands like Koh Samui – and the long, sandy beaches are empty of crowds. Aava Resort is a beautiful family-oriented hotel for those looking to relax on the beach and by the pool.
Chiang Mai with kids
Chiang Mai is a city made for adventure tourists. You can trek, absail or do whitewater rafting here. But it’s a also a city with beautiful temples and fantastic markets and many child-friendly acitivities.
One of the highlights of our trips in Asia must be the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai. You learn so much about the complex issues around Thai elephants, and get to hang out with these majestic animals in a responsible way.
