Cross-stitch Christmas workshops in Kuala Lumpur

It’s time to get those creative juices flowing. If you’re looking for a different group activity in Kuala Lumpur for the Christmas period, why not try a surprisingly therapeutic cross-stitch workshop at Stitches KL.

It was great to put a pause on scrambling round the huge malls of Kuala Lumpur. Shopping for Christmas gifts can be quite hectic, so I had some much needed ‘me time’ with my girlfriends in a chilled, social environment.

Why cross-stitch?

Many people take up cross-stitching as a hobby. I can understand why – it really helps me to unwind. I feel I am allowed to filter my thoughts and focus my mind. The technique is super easy to learn and you get a catching piece of craft as the end result.

Stitches KL is based in Mont Kiara. Andrea, the founder of Stitches KL and her team are both friendly and accommodating. Our girly group was met with a huge smile and delicious home-made goodies to keep us nourished for the workshop duration.

Don’t expect to finish your creations in the workshop. Hand embroidery takes time, also giving me more bang for my buck. I personally became hooked and carried on as soon as I got home!

How to book with Stitches KL?

To book your Christmas workshop or other cross-stitch craft activity, you can contact Andrea through her Instagram or Facebook accounts.

The Christmas workshop takes three hours, from 10am-1pm, and you are presented with a selection of creative templates to choose from. A group is usually made up of 8-10 students but when you have a minimum of 5 people, you can have a private session.

Christmas workshop craft options

For the Cross-Stitch Christmas Workshops there are four options:

  • Christmas ornaments – RM150
  • Christmas cushions – RM180
  • Christmas stockings – RM150
  • Other designs on tote bags and cushions with material from Chile (handmade dyed wool) – RM200

The prices include all materials needed. Cross-stitch kits are conveniently already made up prior to your arrival. If you like, you can also buy cross-stitch kits, which would make a unique Christmas present. The kits include two patterns, thread, embroidery hoop and a needle.

Did I enjoy the cross-stitch workshop?

I have to admit, I was originally going along for the social aspect and wasn’t enamoured with the idea of hand embroidery for three hours. But the time passed so quickly and I’ve done a complete U-turn to admit that I am ever so slightly addicted to this pastime now.
