Entopia Penang: learning and fun!

We recently spent a long weekend break in Penang, and headed to Entopia Penang, a nice new centre that has given a new lease of life to the Penang Butterfly Farm, the long standing butterfly farm in Teluk Bahang.

When we got to Entopia Penang, the sky was slightly overcast, so we started at the indoor space called ‘The Cocoon’ first before moving outdoors. I was expecting to be underwhelmed. After all, how many butterflies does one need to see? I was proven wrong very quickly! Entopia Penang pays homage to over 15,000 or so free-flying butterflies and also houses various other bugs, insects and all other creepy crawlies like snakes, worms, spiders. For my kids, this is a dream come true.

The charm begins as soon as you enter and get assailed by hundreds of winged creatures of different colours. Not only are they beautiful but there is something very mythical about seeing them flying around.

Make sure you get a hold of the tours and feeding times to maximise your visit. We managed to catch the iguana feeding session in the morning which was quite an experience. I never knew they liked to munch on hibiscus!

We went on a long weekend and while it was busy enough, it was not buzzing which was lovely. There was space to amble and stop to enjoy the little highlights as we went along.

For me, the other interesting attraction indoors was Downtown Entopia, where the exhibits are curated based on a big idea: what if insects developed super intelligence? The answer was an invitation to an insect realm with its own restaurants, library, curiosity store and even a bug wedding store!

After all the walking, a snack at the in-house cafe, Tapestree was in order.

Overall, we were totally charmed by Entopia. Definitely a few hours of learning and fun after all that beach at Batu Feringghi.
