Lotus leaf painting at Himapan

A few weeks a go, I did a workshop on lotus leaf painting and now a beautiful piece of art is hanging on my wall. The workshop was run by Himapan, owned by two inspiring ladies, Gina and Michelle. They provide the materials, show you the techniques and guide you through the process of making your personal artwork.

Lotus leaf painting: the journey

I just went by myself and loved the experience, which was like a journey: thinking about what kind of style will fit my house, the actual painting, getting doubts about how it looked and if I used the right techniques, persevering, getting more confident, adding details, then the finishing touches and feeling proud of the result!

The workshop was held at Eats Shoots & Roots in PJ, owned by some amazing and ambitious people. I loved the garden, where they grow their own vegetables and herbs. Their inside space is kind of hippie-style – I’d say the perfect surroundings for some inspiration for your artwork.

Why join the workshop? It’s a very relaxing and mindful activity. Fun conversations arise while making the artwork. The result is great for your own house, or as a special gift for your loved ones abroad. For those farewells for friends leaving KL, the workshop would be a great way to spend time together and going home with a unique piece of art as a memento. It would be good for any other special celebration, for that matter. The results are spectacular!

There will be another workshop coming this weekend 31st of October. You can also contact them if you’re interested in a personal workshop.

  1. At first I was skeptical about the idea of painting lotus leave on canvas. One wkend my daughter just asked me to try my skills. With her inspiration , patience, step by step instructions my painting on a bare lotus leaf on canvas emerged so pretty. I enjoyed every stroke of the brush.and the outcome of it. Cheers Gina,!
