Farm in the City

Farm in the City is a firm favourite in our family. Over the years the place has been growing steadily and is now more like a small zoo – or a huge petting zoo – but definitely not a farm. It has a great variety of animals and the selling point is that you get up close to all those furry creatures. Feeding a rabbit is apparently so much more exciting than watching a panda from afar – my kids prefer Farm in the City to the zoo hands down.

They have the usual suspects – goats, deers and tortoises – that are always happy to much on those greens. I was pleased to see that the staff is now a bit more vigilant in making sure that people don’t make kids sit on top of the giant tortoises for photos!

On our last visit our hearts were melted by these raccoons, that pick up the food from your hand with their silky soft paws. The raccoons have free access to their home base along the logs and some of them chose to hang out at home rather than be fed pellet by pellet by humans.

On a busy day the beautiful and colourful birds in the bird enclosure were overfed and uninterested, but at least we got to feed a pigeon…

My son’s favourite bit must be touching the lizards, closely followed by chicks.

The rabbit and guinea-pig enclosure seems to be the most popular part of the park. Rabbits get stuffed when the park is busy and are sometimes more interested in sleeping than being fed.

In addition to the usual farm animals, kids can also meet less familiar animals like a skunk, a porcupine and prairie dogs.

Pony ride at Farm in the City

The pony ride is suitable for young kids, taking them around the small paddock and lasting about 20 seconds.

Farm in City makes for a nice half-day with animals. It does get busy on weekends and public holidays, so best to head out early!
