Family photoshoot with Becs Viveash

Getting family photoshoot taken by professional photographers seems to be even more common here in KL than in Europe, and why not – the eternal summer offers endless opportunities for shooting in the beautiful tropical light. Most of the photos I see in my friends’ Facebook feed from back home are sleek and stylish, barefoot families wearing white, against white backgrounds.

I will never get such a shoot done with my family. ‘Cheese’ does not work with my kids and when I say ‘look at the camera’ my kids get grumpy and look the other way. OR I get this ‘way-too-cheesy-smiley-face’ from my daughter and my son starts acting like he’s a superhero. And let’s not even mention the ‘please kids, can you sit still?’, ‘stay here’, and ‘5 more minutes’ – not a chance. I’ve never even tried to get a family photo taken.

That was until I saw Becs Viveash’s work and read about her philosophy. When I was given an opportunity to do a family shoot with her, I did not hesitate.

So off we went to the park and just see for yourselves how perfectly it all went. Becs looked through the lens to our family and captured us just the way we are. She looked at the surroundings and had some nice ideas to liven it up. She followed us doing our thing and got so many wonderful shots. No awkward poses, protruding ears, wrinkles or funny faces.  The kids were not sitting still but showed their emotions and were their lively selves. It’s all in there, a family with imperfections. That’s what I love about Becs.

Actually, there is no need for words. The pictures say it all. Not only a talented photographer, Becs is also very funny and makes the atmosphere during the shoot pleasant and easy-going. It was a great, cozy shoot. Thanks Becs!! The pictures will definitely go on the wall.
Next time I’ll ask her to do a shoot with a weird touch: as artsy, crazy series as she can! You can browse Becs’ family portraits here and on Facebook.
