Aloft Hotel, Langkawi – a hotel with high standards

When it comes to hunting for hotels on the nearby island of Langkawi, the choice seems to be between ‘cheap as chips’ and higher end accommodation with a price tag that is also at the higher end. So we were delighted when at the last minute we stumbled upon a little gem of a place that wouldn’t break the bank.

A new Langkawi hotel near the beach

The Aloft Hotel, part of the Marriot group, offers clean, comfortable and contemporary rooms with a great view on Pantai Tengah. You can actually see the sea or a jungle. And by a jungle I mean a proper jungle not some ugly concrete jungle or disused car park.

At the risk of sounding like a middle aged person clinging on to their youth, I would describe the hotel as having a funky style with its vibrant decor and a really chilled out atmosphere.

The breakfast buffet offered a range of lovely local and western dishes and if you wanted to venture out for lunch or dinner there are a whole host of other hotels and restaurants nearby.

It has the added bonus of a free kids club that is open from 10am to 6pm, that offers a wide variety of activities to keep smaller children busy. It also has fussball and pool tables to keep the older ones entertained, leaving you free to re-live your youth listening to Ibiza inspired anthems in one of the cool pods by the pool.

The beautiful beach brimming with white powdery sand is just a 5-minute walk away. And if the walk sounds like too much effort the hotel do offer a shuttle buggy.

When we were there in December the sea was calm, so it was perfect for little ones that aren’t keen on waves, but not so entertaining for those that enjoy being thrown around by the sea. If you do venture to the beach don’t forget to bring your own towels and beach toys.

As always try to avoid busy periods and book in advance to get a good deal. A top tip is that they also offer really comfy blow up beds and didn’t charge us extra. For more information on this hotel and the latest prices head here.
